With at least 4 years of studying law and about six months of waiting for the Bar exam results, getting into the legal profession in the Philippines is a form of self-inflicted torture.

Ah, well the long journey to becoming a lawyer will be nearly over for the 6,831 law students who took the Bar exams at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila in November last year — at least for those who pass.

According to the “reliable sources” of the Manila Times, the results are expected to be released on May 2, after a special session for the deliberations of the passing rate.

The oathtaking of the new lawyers is said to be scheduled on May 23 at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

This year’s projected passing rate is pegged at 40 percent.

In the last decade, the highest passing rate was seen during the 2011 Bar Examinations with a 31.95-percent passing rate.

There were eight subjects during the exams held in four consecutive Sundays: Political Law and Labor Law; Civil Law and Taxation; Mercantile Law and Criminal Law; Remedial Law and Legal Ethics and Practical Exercises.
