From one university last year and now two this year.

The Philippines’ top educational institutions are improving in the world rankings, based on the latest list released by the London-based Times Higher Education (THE) yesterday.

De La Salle University (DLSU) was ranked in the 801 – 1000 range while UP was ranked 501 – 600.

While these results may not seem all that impressive to those outside the Philippines, they’re definitely seen as an improvement locally.

Last year, UP was the only Philippine institution on the list, so the addition of DLSU is welcomed.

UP has also been consistently improving. It was in the 601-800 bracket last year and in the >800 bracket the year prior.

The THE World University Rankings is a list of the top 1,000 universities from around the world based on performance indicators in the areas of teaching, research, citations, industry income, and international outlook.

Top on the latest list is the University of Oxford while the highest-ranked Asian institution is China’s Tsinghua University, which is ranked 22.
