2 men arrested for hijacking truck with PHP1.2 million worth of detergent bars

So much for a clean getaway.

“Two men — identified as Romeo Bacod and Remigio Umali — who allegedly hijacked a 10-wheeler truck loaded with PHP1.2-million worth of detergent bars in Quezon City before midnight Monday have been arrested,” reports Robertzon Ramirez in The Philippine Star.

The report noted: “Bacod was caught with the stolen truck along Pureza Street in Manila, while Umali was apprehended in Sta. Mesa.”

According to Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Chief Superintendent Joel Pagdilao, police officers confiscated a .45 caliber pistol, a police athletic uniform, cap, and cellphone from Bacod. They also took a Mitsubishi Galant, .38 caliber revolvers, and a cellphone from Umali.

The report said the”truck driver Ernesto Oite had told police he was going through Araneta Avenue when the suspects, wearing police athletic uniforms and driving a van, flagged them down. When he stopped, one of the suspects ordered Oite and his companions — Roderick Ilagan and Michael Rosas — to leave the truck and get in the van. Two other suspects boarded the truck and drove it off. The victims later escaped and reported the hijacking to the QCPD Station 11″.

Bacod and Umali are in police custody They have been charged with robbery, illegal possession of firearms, illegal use of uniform and insignia and usurpation of authority.
