A driver who was reportedly drunk and couldn’t drive his automatic vehicle plowed through and killed a couple in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan last night.
Businessman Rene Endaya lost control of his Toyota Innova and rammed several street vendors who were selling their goods along Quirino Highway. Killed in the accident were vendors Juvelyn Vazquez and her partner Jonaver Adaza.
Investigators said Endaya first hit a money remittance store that was located along one side of the highway. The suspect tried to flee from the crime scene and ended up driving on the other side of the road, where he hit and killed the couple. Two other vendors were left injured due to the accident.
“The driver was drunk. He was just going to buy roasted chicken. These vendors were planning to leave when he suddenly lost control of his Innova,” Staff Sergeant Wenefredo Dalagan told news show 24 Oras.
“He just learned how to drive an automatic vehicle recently. His old vehicles were all conventional, stick shift. This was caused by human error,” the investigator added.
Endaya will be charged with multiple homicides, multiple physical injuries, and damage to properties. He has apologized to his victims and said he didn’t want the accident to happen.
