It’s another tragic story of cops behaving badly.
“In the early hours of Thursday, Jan 30, Police Officer 2 Christopher de Guzman faced off against Police Officer 3 Isaias Merced, 46, after a misunderstanding while in separate drinking sessions with their respective groups in Barangay San Vicente in Quezon City,” reports Reinir Padua in The Philippine Star.
The two cops were rushed to the hospital after Merced stabbed De Guzman in the armpit and De Guzman shot Merced in the left thigh.
According to the report, Merced had gone to the area with his family to attend a relative’s birthday party. Meanwhile, De Guzman was in a drinking session with some friends at a store in the area.
Soon, Merced’s son Ryuji and his friends went to the store to buy cigarettes. There, De Guzman asked him where he was from. This apparently offended Ryuji, so he left. He came back with his father, who then confronted De Guzman.
PO2 Eduardo Roy, who was a friend of the two policemen and who also happened to be nearby, tried to intervene but he backed away when the two men each pulled out a weapon. Merced had a folding nife, De Guzman had a gun.
