They say justice delayed is justice denied, but sometimes, it’s better late than never.
“On Thursday, Dec 19, the Quezon City Regional Trial Court sentenced brothers Edwin and William Chua to 30 years of imprisonment and to pay a PHP10 million fine for transporting 330 kilos of shabu back in 2001,” reprots Rio N. Araja of Manila Standard Today.
The charges against the Chuas, who were found guilty beyond reasonable doubt of violating the Dangerous Drugs Act, were transferred from a lower court in Iba, Zambales to Quezon City.
In her decision, Branch 79 Judge Nadine Jessica Corazon Fama invoked the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1972 and not the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 since the crime was committed on November 15, 2001. The agents of the National Bureau of Investigation had arrested the Chua brothers onboard their Asian utility vehicle 12 years ago after they were given a tip about their huge shabu shipment by the Philippine National Police-Narcotics Group and the Drug Enforcement Agency of the United States of America.
