Philippine National Police-National Capital Region Police Office (PNP-NCRPO) chief Major General Guillermo Eleazar has become famous for berating cops in front of the media. His fury was in full display once again yesterday when he scolded two cops and an informant for allegedly robbing a man they accused of being a drug addict.
The two cops have been identified as Police Corporal Roy Duman-ag and Patrolman Arsenio Velardo, both of whom are part of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit of the Pasig City Police. The policemen were arrested on Monday night along with their informant Janus Francisco.
All three were presented to the media yesterday where Eleazar scolded them for denying the charges of robbery and intimidation, reported DZMM. At one point, Eleazar poked his finger at one of the suspects’ forehead and said in Filipino, “The problem with you, you did something wrong and you have the gall to deny it!”
The trio allegedly victimized a man named Robert Tamondong, whom the two policemen arrested on Monday in the village of San Miguel, also in Pasig City. One of the suspects allegedly shouted “Don’t run, you addict!” at Tamondong and pointed a gun at the victim. The suspects then brought the victim to a house and allegedly robbed him, taking his silver-plated ring and PHP850 (US$16.70) in cash, reported The Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Tamondong reported the robbery which resulted in the suspects’ arrest on the same day. Pasig police seized the silver ring, two caliber .9mm pistols which were loaded with 48 bullets, and a Swiss knife from the suspects, reported The Philippine Star‘s Pang Masa.
All three suspects will be charged with robbery with intimidation. The two cops will also be charged with grave misconduct, which could lead to their complete dismissal from the police force, reported ABS-CBN News. They have been temporarily relieved from their posts.
