18,000 Typhoon Yolanda survivors now in Metro Manila

We wish they were in the metropolis under better circumstances.

“According to  the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD),  at least 18,016 individuals or 4,352 families from typhoon-devastated areas in the Visayas have been flown to Metro Manila as of Friday, Nov 29,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.

The report cited DSWD-National Capital Region director Alicia Bonoan, who revealed that based on their records, “about 80 percent of the refugees have relatives living in the capital or nearby areas, while the rest opted to stay in temporary shelters.”

Bonoan reiterated that Villamor Air Base, where the C-130 cargo planes carrying the survivors land, only serves as a processing center and not an evacuation center.
