18,000 cops’ guns get taped to curb New Year firing

We hate to say it, but this move makes policemen seem like children who don’t know how to control themselves.

“On Thursday, Dec 19, the gun muzzles of around 18,000 police officers from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) were taped to prevent them from being fired indiscriminately during the Christmas and New Year revelries,” reports Non Alquitran in The Philippine Star.

Apparently, NCRPO chief Director Carmelo Valmoria led the ceremonial taping of gun muzzles at the NCRPO headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City.

According to the report Valmoria explained “that policemen can fire their guns while in the call of duty, but they must report the incidents to their superiors so they would not be mistakenly punished for firing their guns.”

If that’s the case, then why not just tape their guns the whole year round? (We’re kidding.)
