A 17-year-old high school player from Jose Rizal University died after collapsing during a game at the FilOil Premier Cup last Friday, the school announced Monday afternoon.

Carl Jimwell “CJ” Servillon, a member of the JRU Light Bombers, “unexpectedly lost consciousness during a time out” during their game against De La Salle Zobel last Friday, the school said in a statement.

He was brought to the Cardinal Santos Memorial Hospital and confined at the intensive care unit.

Servillon died Sunday night.

“We urge everyone to extend their prayers to CJ’s family during these trying times,” JRU said.

Sports website Spin.ph first reported of Servillon’s passing. His coach, Nat Gregorio, said at the time that the cause of death has yet to be determined.
