A 16-year-old girl in Tantangan, South Cotabato was shot dead by her father, who has mistaken her for a burglar.
According to a report by Francis Canlas on ABS-CBNnews.com, the girl had gone out with three of her sisters to attend a party for their town fiesta.
However, the three sisters went home early. The girl chose to stay behind because she was still meeting up with her classmates.
The girl went home sometime before dawn. Most possibly out of fear of being scolded for staying out so late, she decided to enter their house by climbing through the roof. She was most probably planning to go through the window that led to her room.
However, as the report indicated, the girl’s father was awakened by the noise. He thought there was a burglar up on the roof, so he got his gun and fired upwards. The bullet hit the girl on the chest.
The girl was rushed to the hospital where she was declared dead.
The victim’s family has refused to comment on the incident. They have only asked that their names not be mentioned in reports.
