Since he’s a minor, they’ll let him off with a warning. Otherwise, he’d be forced to pay a fine that ranges from PHP300,000 to PHP500,000.

“Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) officials have turned over to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) a quadcopter found at the grassy portion of Runway 06-24 on Monday, May 18,” reports Raoul Esperas on ABS-CBNnews.com.

According to Major Melchor Delos Santos, head of the Airport Police Intelligence and Investigation Division, they don’t plan to file charges against the boy who owns the drone. Besides, he can’t be charged anyway because he’s a minor.

The report noted: “The 16-year-old boy who owns the drone is a robotics champion and quadcopter assembler. He recently won in a robotics competition and is scheduled to represent the Philippines in June against other countries. He is resident of Merville, Paranaque, which is a kilometer away from the airport runway.”

The boy appeared at the airport police office to own up to his mistake and he got lectured by Delos Santos. The boy promised that he will never use his drone again in the airport’s no-fly zone area.
