1,561 people arrested for violating election gun ban

In case you didn’t know it, a gun ban is in effect due to the upcoming polls. In fact, the gun ban, which started on Jan 10 is going to be enforced way after the May 9 polls, as it lasts until Jun 8.

But, as usual, there were people who vilolated the stipulations made by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Since the gun ban took effect last Jan, police have already arrested 1,561 gun ban violators.

“On Sunday, February 28, the Philippine National Police (PNP) revealed that among those arrested, there were 1,501 civilians, 15 government officials, 11 policemen, six soldiers, 20 security guards, a fireman, two members of the Citizens Armed Force Geographical Units and five members of other law enforcement agencies,” reports ABS-CBN News.

From its arrests, the PNP seized some 1,173 firearms and 14,818 deadly weapons.

The election offense, carries a penalty of one to six years imprisonment, disqualification from holding public office, and the removal of the right to vote.
