Thousands of onions planted on 1,500 hectares of farmland in Bayambang, Pangasinan were destroyed after armyworms attacked, a local media reported today.
About 66 villages were affected by the pest. The local government will use its calamity fund to help the 1,400 farmers whose livelihoods were impacted by what occurred, reported the news program Unang Balita.

Pangasinan is frequently attacked by armyworms. In 2016, about 500 hectares of onions were destroyed in the province when the insects struck.
