One can never be too careful.

“A 14-year-old boy named Kim Mariñas drowned last Tuesday, December 23, in one of the lagoons at Camp John Hay Golf Course in Baguio City,” reports Zaldy Comanda in Tempo.

Police said that Mariñas and another boy identified only as ‘Dodong’ were playing at around 5pm near Lagoon 7 at the golf course when they accidentally fell into the lagoon.

A photographer who was nearby ran to save them, but he only managed to save Dodong.

Supt. Rolando Miranda, Baguio City Police Office officer-in-charge, explained, “The photographer saw the children at the area and when he saw them fall, he immediately ran to save them but he could not see the other boy.”

Policemen and members of the Bureau of Fire and Protection, as well as the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) tried to locate Mariñas in the deep portion of the lagoon but they could not locate him right away.

The report noted: “After suctioning waters from the lagoon, rescuers recovered the body of the victim at around 9:30am on December 24.”
