The 115th Independence Day rites will be held at Liwasang Bonifacio

President Benigno Aquino III will lead the celebration of the 115th year since the Philippines declared independence from Spain at the Liwasang Bonifacio, the shrine commemorating Katipunan leader Andres Bonifacio.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte, who made the announcement Sunday, said it will be held at the Liwasang Bonifacio in remembrance of Bonifacio on his sesquicentennial.

Last year’s Independence Day celebration was held at Barasoain Church in Malolos, Bulacan. The church was the temporary residence of General Emilio Aguinaldo, the country’s first President. It was also the site of the drafting of the Malolos Constitution and the inauguration of the First Philippine Republic.

Valte said the Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office and the Presidential Museum and Library will be releasing infographics on the Philippine flags to mark Independence Day. The Philippine Postal Corp. will also be issuing a commemorative stamp.

In case you missed it: Independence Day is on June 12, Wednesday.
