An 11-month-old baby drowned in a bucket filled with water inside the family’s home in Barangay Nalsian Sur in Bayambang, Pangasinan on Wed, Sep 9.
Initial investigation of the police showed that the mother of the baby was doing laundry just a few meters away when the incident occurred.
The baby was reportedly crawling until it reached and accidentally fell into the bucket.
“Napagalaman natin sa initial na investigation sa kwento ng nanay na naglalaba siya, napansin niya yung anak niya na nasa loob ng timba na nalunod na nga (We know from initial investigation that the mother said she was washing clothes when she suddenly realized that her child had drowned inside the bucket),” said Chief Insp. Edgar Torres of Bayambang police.
The baby, the youngest of three siblings, was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police said the two other children have been separated from their mother for the meantime. Their father is currently working abroad.
“Inilayo kasi nasa state of shock pa ang nanay (They were taken away because their mother is still in a state of shock),” Torres said.
Neighbors said the mother had pointed a bladed weapon at herself after her baby died.
Meanwhile, police reminded parents to always keep an eye on their children to prevent untoward incidents from happening. (from a report by Aldrin Soriano, ABS-CBN News North Central Luzon)
