1000 Manila cops secure University area

The Manila Police District has deployed at least 1,000 uniformed and undercover policemen to secure the University Belt area on the opening of classes for private schools and tertiary schools.

In an ABS CBN News report, MPD spokesperson Chief Inspector Erwin Margarejo said there are 343 schools in Manila alone. Due to the volume of students and teachers, the MPD  said it will be implementing a four-phase security plan around schools in the area.

The first phase involves the general safety of students which includes the “NO ID, No Entry” policy in campuses. The second phase is restoring and maintaining peace and order within school vicinities. This involves zero vendors in pathways and waiting sheds as well as securing parking areas. The third phase is crime prevention and the fourth and final phase  is the MPD’s continuous drive against criminal elements preying on students.
