Filipinos among shortest in the world, claims UK study

Remember this: It’s not about the height, it’s about the swagger.

A study led by scientists from Imperial College London that used data from 200 countries reveal that Filipinos are among the shortest in the world. 

Titled “A Century of Trends in Adult Human Height,” the study was published on the online journal eLife and looked into the heights of 18 year olds born between 1896 and 1996.

It shows that while the height of Filipino women increased by around 2cm over the past century (4ft 8in to 4ft 9in), ranking has plunged from 164 to 199.  

Did Filipino men fare better? Yes. From 195 in 1896, he now ranks 192.

The average height of Filipino men is now at about 162cm (5ft 3in) from about 154cm (5ft 1in) a hundred years ago.

According to the study, Dutch men are the tallest with an average height of 182.5cm (5ft 9in), while Latvian women are the tallest with average height of 170cm (5ft 5in).

The top four tallest countries for men are the Netherlands, Belgium, Estonia and Latvia. For women, it’s Latvia, the Netherlands, Estonia and the Czech Republic. 

The shortest men are from East Timor at 160cm (5ft 5in), while the shortest women are from Guatemala at 149cm (4ft 8in) on average.
