Can you believe it? It’s already the 10th edition of Instituto Cervantes’ Dia Del Libro. To celebrate, Instituto is holding “La Noche de los Libros” or, a night of books for a change. There will be free entertainment, food, games, poetry, music, and Spanish classes.
There are about 4,000 books on that day, with exhibitors and bookstores giving a 20% discount on children’s books, YA titles, fiction novels and non-fiction reads. And following the Spanish tradition, every book purchase gets one red rose. Muy caliente!
Come early because it will give away books to the first 100 guests of the book party, which starts at 4pm.
The party starts with a round-table discussion on the preservation of Filipino literary heritage. There will also be a re-writing of Don Quixote, as this year marks the 400th anniversary of the second volume of Miguel de Cervantes’ work. Instituto is looking for 500 book-lover volunteers to take part in this re-writing.
It’s going to be a writing chain: Each volunteer will have 2 minutes to copy by hand a few sentences of the novel, after which the volunteer will pass it to the next volunteer. This will go on until 11pm, after which the hand-written book will be deposited in the Library Miguel Hernandez of Instituto Cervantes.
