More than 100 fishing boats were damaged when a storm surge hit the town of Pasuquin in Ilocos province over the weekend.

The boats destroyed are valued at PHP50,000 (US$1,000) each. Seventeen houses were also destroyed.

Town councilors declared a state of calamity after the storm surge hit..

According to a report by state-run Philippine News Agency, town Mayor Ferdinand Aguinaldo said about six percent of the town’s villages were hit when Tropical Storm Gorio made landfall.

Storm surges were attributed to the thousands of deaths in the Eastern Visayas when Super Typhoon Haiyan hit in 2013.

Despite the damage, no injuries or deaths were reported in the storm surge.
