The Marikina City Government will be keeping a closer watch on its citizens as it installs 100 CCTV cameras in different parts of the city, reports Non Alquitran of Philippine Star.

City Mayor Del de Guzman says the cameras will help authorities by “prevent[ing] crimes and identify[ing] crime suspects.” He added that cameras installed under the Marikina Bridge would serve as a monitor of the rising water level of the tributary during heavy downpours.

Senior Supt. Reynaldo Jagmis, the city police chief, said the cameras would be also be placed on major thoroughfares to help police monitor the flow of traffic, on top of keeping tabs at crime-prone areas.

The mayor said he expected the installation of cameras to be completed by December.
