Another story of police behaving badly.

One police officer was killed and three arrested in Taguig City earlier this morning for allegedly being involved in a kidnap-extortion incident.

The officers allegedly raided a woman’s house and stole PHP50,000 (US$939.61) last night.

After that heist, they allegedly went on to abduct a couple early this morning wherein they released the woman but asked for a PHP200,000 (US$3,759.25) ransom in exchange for her partner’s release, ABS-CBN News reported.

The couple reported the incident, leading authorities from the Taguig City Police and SWAT team to conduct an entrapment operation. The suspects allegedly resisted arrest, leading to a shootout that ended up killing one PO1 Heraldo Ancheta.

The three arrested were identified as PO1 Bryan Amir Papa Bayo, PO2 Joey Ermino Mano, and PO1 Paulo Ocampo.

In an interview with radio station DZBB, Taguig City Police Chief Sr. Supt. Alexander Santos said that they suspect that the police officers usually target people who were previously or currently involved in the narco business.

“They target former drug personalities [and current] drug personalities,” he said in Filipino.

All suspects were from Precinct 1 of Taguig City police.

In a report by ABS-CBN News, National Capital Region Police Office Director Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar said that all 39 officers in the precinct, including their head, have been sacked and will undergo investigation.
