Maybe this should be a wake-up call to fireworks freaks.
At least one person was confirmed dead and 24 injured when a blaze razed through a group of shops selling fireworks and set off explosions in Bocaue, Bulacan.
Bocaue, Bulacan, which is about an hour’s drive from Manila, is known for its bustling fireworks industry.
Initial reports described the fatality as female.
Some 20 firetrucks and four ambulances had responded to the incident.
Earlier, Bocaue Mayor Joni Villanueva told CNN Philippines that the fire broke out around 11:30am at one of the stalls, “setting off explosions and triggering a chain reaction that spread to adjacent stalls.”
“Firefighters declared the fire out at a little past 1pm. Television footage showed charred cars that had been overturned by the force of explosions from the fire, and debris across the road,” noted InterAksyon.
