A 21-year-old helper died while 20 others were injured when two trucks collided along EDSA in Quezon City before dawn Thursday.
Police reports said the two trucks – one carrying fish for delivery to the market, and the other carrying a backhoe – collided at an intersection and threw off all 18 passengers. These were mostly helpers and laborers aged 16 and 17 who were sleeping at the back.
Jomar Nablasca, 21, died while fish truck driver Dolphy Olbina is still in critical condition. Olbina’s left leg was broken in the accident.
The Philippine Star reported it took rescuers over an hour to retrieve Olbina and two others from underneath the trucks. The other passengers were brought to the Quezon City General Hospital and the East Avenue Medical Center for treatment but were later released.
