Celebrity Xander Ford, Marlou Arizala in real life, was arrested in Pasay City last night for allegedly beating up and attempting to rape his ex-girlfriend, Ysah Cabrejas.

Ford, formerly a member of the parody group Hasht5, was arrested based on a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Manila Branch 38 for allegedly violating Republic Act 9262, also known as the Violence Against Women and Their Children law. His management team reportedly plans to pay his PHP18,000 (US$375) bail today.

Lt. Col. Magno Gallora, Jr., chief of Manila’s Moriones police, told The Philippine Daily Inquirer that Ford’s former partner filed the case after she had a heated argument with the actor.

“When I asked what the case was, he (Ford) said that he fought with his former girlfriend. He thought they settled [their differences] but it turns out that the case has already been filed against him,”  Gallora said.

Ford denied Cabrejas’ allegations but appealed for the latter to forgive him.

“I didn’t run away [during my arrest]. I want to prove that I did nothing wrong,” he said.

“I’m going to humble myself for my mother. Ysah, please forgive me because it’s going to be Christmas and I might not be able to see my mother,” he added.

David Cabawatan, Ford’s manager, said they intend to speak to Cabrejas about the case and settle it out of court. Ford was put under indefinite suspension by his manager a few months ago after Cabrejas’ accusations became public.

It was in July when Ford came out as a bisexual and introduced his boyfriend, an act that riled his critics who had accused him of using the LGBTQ community to dodge his alleged misdeeds.

Several Filipinos dislike Ford because of his unconventional appearance, something that made him stick out like a sore thumb in the local showbiz scene that’s dominated by fair-skinned, half Caucasian celebrities. To boost his career, he went through plastic surgery in 2017, which critics said was a PR stunt orchestrated by his managers. His career continued to suffer because he was allegedly difficult to work with, and he ended up going back to school.

He is currently detained at the Manila Police District Station 2.
