ABS-CBN’s latest crown jewel in the primetime slot, On the Wings of Love, is leaving fans squirming with kilig thanks to all their kissing scenes.
OTWOL‘s Antoinette Jadaone, who has gained the reputaion of being the ‘hugot director’, gives her actors James Reid and Nadine Lustre full credit for the perfect liplocks in the show so far.
In a report from PEP.ph, Tonet considers the two as “kissing scene” veterans. They have, after all, made three movies so far: Diary ng Panget, Talk Back and You’re Dead, and Para sa Hopeless Romantic.
“In fairness sa kanilang dalawa, magaling silang humalik. Magaling sila sa screen kiss. Minsan sinasabi ko ‘Pag ganitong take, gilid lang siya ha, kahit hindi na kayo magkiss diyan,’ magki-kiss pa rin sila. So parang lang wala siguro sa kanila ‘yon,” the director said.
She also compared the two actors and their approach to a kissing scene: “Si James ay take one actor, mas magaling siya sa first take. Kapag second take, iba na yung bigay niya. Si Nadine, mas diesel. Gumagaling siya habang tumatagal yung take. So ginagawa ko, si James, sa kanya muna yung camera. So pag sa next take, si Nadine na. So ibig sabihin, okay na si Nadine.”
The recent OTWOL episode with two near-kisses was such a hit, it garnered more than 1.6 million mentions on Twitter. Its hashtag, #OTWOLMostKiligNight, got a spot in Twitter’s top trending topics during its telecast.
Tonet revealed she doesn’t even have to give a lot of intructions to James and Nadine because the two are always ready to help each other out.
“Mayroon kasing isang kissing scene na gusto ko si Nadine naman ang unang hahalik, kasi nakakarami na si James (‘Masyado ka nang pa-bebe ha’). Hindi pala siya unang humamalik ever sa pelikula so first time. Yung unang take, hindi ko nagustuhan. So kinuha ko si James, ganito yung gusto kong mangyari na kiss, ganyan ganyan. So nag-usap sila, sabi niya, ‘Nads, you kiss me then I’ll finish off the kiss,'” Tonet recalled.
Direk also believes JaDine is a fresh love team and that it helps that they’re not together in real life.
“Dahil hindi sila sa totoong buhay, pag pinag-hug ko sila, na parang nagbreak kayo, iba yung hugot nila sa character. Kasi yung hugot nila hindi personal. Feeling ko may magic yun, e. Si Piolo [Pascual] and Juday [Judy Ann Santos], Bea [Alonzo] and John Lloyd [Cruz], di naman talaga sila. So may magic talaga pag hindi sila.”
But does she think they have a chance at being a real life couple?
“Di ko alam, e, pero parang bahala sila,” Tonet said.
