Remember the singing pastors who sang the Philippine national anthem in the Manny Pacquiao – Chris Algieri fight way back in Nov. 22, 2014? They will once again get the privilege of singing it for Pacquiao’s fight with Floyd Mayweather, Jr. this May 2, 2015.
However, there’s an addition: Fil-Am, singer Gail Banawis. The 19-year old met Pacquiao through a relative and asked if she could be part of the choir that will sing the national anthem, and he said yes. In a report by Dino Maragy of the Philippine Star, she tried out to sing for one of Manny’s previous fights but didn’t make the cut.
All is well that ends well. She may not have the spotlight on just her but bagging this stint is something huge that a lot of other singers out there really, really want.
