Ogie Alcasid’s contract with television network TV5 will expire this August.
Is he staying or going?
Ogie, 48, said he isn’t sure himself.
“I still have to talk to my manager, saan ba tayo pupunta? Ang focus ko ngayon tapusin muna ang concert, tapos saka na lang mag-isip one-by-one, kasi nagpatong-patong,” he told ABS-CBN News Online during the press conference for his birthday concert “Ayokong Tumanda.”
(I still have to talk to my manager, where do we go? My focus is to finish my concert, then I’ll think about that.)
The singer-comedian moved to TV5 in 2013, after being a contract star of rival network GMA for over 18 years. He was one of the big stars from major networks ABS-CBN and GMA who transferred to TV5, in the hopes of turning the network into a major player in the broadcasting and entertainment industry.
Struggling network TV5 is hardly producing any entertainment content. Its primetime block — which once aired dramas and serialized teen-oriented shows — is now littered with American TV shows and movies dubbed in Tagalog.
Its partnership with Viva Entertainment also ended badly.
Ogie said “anything is possible,” when asked if he was open to transferring to ABS-CBN.
“I can even go back to GMA,” he added.
But Ogie admits there’s a part of him that would think that maybe he could still help TV5 if he remains with the network.
However, he noted: “If it’s no longer possible, then it’s time to move on. I don’t want to base my position on anything else but where am I needed most at this point.”
