We bet you didn’t see this one coming.
Singer Wency Cornejo took to his Facebook page to complain about Jovit Baldivino’s lack of courtesy for ‘older musicians’ during a show in Labangal, General Santos City. Jovit, in case you’ve forgotten is the first grand prize winner of Pilipinas Got Talent.
What ultimately went down was pretty ugly.
“Nakakalungkot isipin na may mga performer katulad ni Jovit Baldivino na hindi marunong rumespeto sa mas nakakatandang musiko,” Wency said.
Wency says Jovit was told not to sing “Pusong Bato” before the show. The reason? Renee Dela Rosa, the song’s composer and original singer, was in the show’s line up performing with his band, Alon.

“Hindi man ganun kasikat, kung ang nagsulat at orihinal na nag-record ng awitin ay kasama mo sa isang show, hindi mo dapat unahang kantahin ang awitin nya,” the former AfterImage vocalist wrote.
“Kahit pinakiusapan na hindi pa rin sya pumayag na huwag kantahin. It just goes to show, it is very hard to teach humility, respect and class,” Wency added in his scorch-filled entry.
But in an statement to DZMM, Jovit’s camp said it was Kagawad Bobby Pacquiao who requested for the song, wanting a duet with Jovit. “Pusong Bato” is also Jovit’s cover song, which he also sang for the TV show Juan dela Cruz.
Jovit’s camp also clarified their side of the story, saying they were not aware the original singer of “Pusong Bato” was also in the show, and that they were not informed of the repertoire of other performers. (We found the event poster, though, and it clearly says Alon will perform.)

When Wency’s post went viral, the singer stood his ground but warned his followers not to resort to “name-calling and bashing” other artists.
“Kung nagkamali man pwede naman tayo magpatawad. If you resort to name calling and bashing, it only goes to show that you are also lacking in respect, humility and class,” he said.
Wency even answered a post on a Jovit Baldivino Facebook Fan Page, after it apologized on behalf of other fans.
“There’s no need to apologize to me. Hindi naman sa akin nangyari eh. Si Kuya Rene dela Rosa ang apektado. Napakaliit ng mundo ng musika. We need to band together as one. Let’s not try to make factions. Mabuhay ang Musikong Pinoy!” he said.
Wency’s more level-headed followers were quick to point out, though, that Wency and Jovit should have just resolved the issue privately.
Meantime, here’s that clip from DZMM:
