Celebrate Filipino heroes through film
Date: June 19 – 22 (Wednesday – Saturday)
Venue: Cinema 4, Red Carpet, 6/F, Shangri-la Plaza, EDSA cor. Shaw Blvd., Mandaluyong City
This week, the Film Development Council of the Philippines is holding a retrospective film festival that’s all about the country’s heroes.
Films that will be screened include Ang Hapis at Himagsik ni Hermano Puli (The Agony and Fury of Brother Puli), which covers the story of the religious leader Hermano Pule, Ang Kababaihan ng Malolos (The Women of Malolos), and Bonifacio about revolutionary leader Andres Bonifacio.
Celebrated films Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral (English: Goyo: The Boy General) which tells the story of General Gregorio del Pilar, Heneral Luna about General Antonio Luna, and Jose Rizal, a film about the eponymous national hero, will also be shown.
The film festival will be held at the Red Carpet Cinema in Shangri-la Plaza mall. Admission is free.

Take a walking tour of Manila
Date: June 22, Saturday
Venue: Quiapo, Manila
Those who would rather appreciate the Philippines as it is today can do that in the Colors of Manila Public Tour this Saturday.
Organized by Manila For A Day, this is an all-sensory food tour that will guide attendees around Manila’s Quiapo district. It will run from 2pm – 5:30pm on Saturday and will include the following stops:
- The Den (meetup point)
- Plaza Lacson
- Hidalgo Fruit Market
- Plaza Miranda & Surrounding Markets
- Quiapo Underpass
- Globo de Oro Halal Food District
- Quiapo Bridge Souvenir Shops
- Quinta Wet Market

The tour is priced at PHP1,749 (US$33.71). This includes an English-speaking cultural guide, guiding fee, a food tasting of Mindanaoan food, market food tasting of fruits and delicacies, and — for the truly brave — balut (fertilized duck embryo) tasting.

Roll through a skateboarding event
Date: June 22, Saturday
Venue: Metrotent, Metrowalk Commercial Complex, Meralco Ave., Pasig City
Go Skateboarding Day is an annual holiday celebrated all over the world on June 21. Here in the Philippines, skaters and skating enthusiasts can look forward to a celebration this Saturday, June 22, from 9am to 11pm.
Those big on skateboarding can participate in games and skating challenges organized by Vans and their partner skate shops. There will also be a free skate section for kids, women, and men. More casual attendees can simply enjoy live music all night. Their lineup includes The Chongkeys, Cobra Kids, and Kartell’em.

Practice yoga (for free) with a huge community of yogis
Date: June 22, Saturday
Venue: Music Hall, Ground Level, SM Mall of Asia – Entertainment Mall, SM Mall of Asia, SM Mall of Asia Complex, Jose W. Diokno Blvd., SM Central Business Park, Bay City, Pasay City
Also celebrated on June 21 every year is International Day of Yoga. It will also be celebrated in the Philippines on June 22, Saturday, with free yoga sessions organized by the Embassy of India in Manila.
The yoga sessions will be followed by a vegetarian food festival.
The event will be held at the Music Hall at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City from 11am to 2:30pm. Over 300 people attended a similar event in Cebu last weekend, so the one Manila will likely be just as huge.

Fête de la Musique PH is back and this year, the music festival celebrates 25 years in the Philippines. Like always, there will be main stages in various locations around Metro Manila and pocket stages for various genres in more intimate venues.
On June 21, Friday, the main stage will be at Makati’s A-Venue. The lineup includes Irie Sunday Crew, Bawal Clan, Anima Tierra x Flow Arts PH, Extrapolation, Ang Bandang Shirley, Unique, Speech from AFM, #GlobeFete Prod Number, Dicta License, Apartel, Ebe Dancel, and Itchyworms. The event opens at 5pm.
The June 22, Saturday main stage, on the other hand, will be at the Greenbelt Park. Musical acts include Dayaw, Pinkmen, CRWN x August Wahh, Todo Pasa, She’s Only Sixteen, The Ransom Collective, Project Yazz x Skarlet Brown, Hernandez Brothers x Quest, Ciudad, Autotelic, and Urbandub. The event opens at 4pm.
Both events are free and open to the public.
