Stargazing is often an underrated activity, especially in a busy city like Manila — but for those who want to do something different this Friday, then try “Explore the Unknown,” a telescope workshop organized by the Philippine Astronomical Society and gadget store Cutting Edge.

It will be held in the Trinoma Park Level 4 starting 6:30pm and until 10pm. Just like the magical stars, the viewing itself won’t cost a penny.

Catch a renowned Japanese guitarist on stage

The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra has been celebrating its 45th anniversary in the past months and as a finale for this season, they’ve invited renowned Japanese guitarist Kiyoshi Shomura to perform a modern guitar concerto at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

The show is on Friday and starts at 8pm. Tickets are priced from PHP500 (US$9.62) – PHP1,500 (US$28.87) depending on the seat and are available at the CCP.

Attend a (somewhat solemn) concert

Holy Week starts on Sunday, and those looking for an event that is both cultural and religious can attend De Profundis, a concert at the Ayala Museum where top vocal artists from the country will perform sacred songs.

Meaning “Out of the Depths,” the event’s name comes from Psalm 131. Bach’s BWV 131 “Aus der Tiefen rufe ich,” which is based on the Bible passage will be performed during the concert.

It will also feature music of Baroque, Classical, and Romantic styles including Mozart’s Laudate Dominum and Fauré’s Requiem in D minor, Op. 48.

A regular ticket costs PHP1,000 (US$19.25) while a premiere ticket is PHP1,500 (US$28.87). They are available on Ticket World. The show starts at 7pm.

Laugh out loud at a comedy show

Comedian Tom Green was popular in the ’90s and early 2000s, especially for The Tom Green Show, in which he appeared as a host.

Current Filipino fans can catch him this week when he stops by Manila for a show as part of his Asia Comedy Tour.

It will be held at The City Club’s ballroom at 8:30pm. Tickets are available on Ticket World and are priced at PHP1,600 (US$30.80) for a standard ticket and PHP3,000 (US$57.75) for a VIP ticket.

Watch an indie pop artist live

Venue: New Frontier Theater, Araneta Center, General McArthur Ave., Quezon City

This technically isn’t going to happen on the weekend, but it’s too cool to pass up on. Danish indie pop singer MØ will be in Manila on Monday for a one-night concert at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City. This will be her first time in the Philippines as part of her Forever Neverland World Tour.

MØ is known for the electropop beats that feature prominently in hits like “Lean On,” “Final Song,” and “Nights With You.”

Tickets are available on Ticket Net and are priced between PHP1,270 (US$24.45) and PHP3,710 (US$71.41).
