Kriesha Tiu, a young Filipina from Cebu, is in the grand finals of a Korean reality show.
Tiu impressed the judges of SBS’s “K-Pop Star 6” with her stand-out performance of JYP’s song “Swing Baby” with fellow contestants Kim Sohee and Kim Hyerim as the group “KWINs.”
JYP Entertainment’s Park Jin-young, one of the judges of the talent show, said Tiu, as translated by Koreaboo, “perfectly captured the feeling of the swing dance and song,” describing her volume and tone as “refreshing.”
It led to her earning a spot in the grand finals, alongside three others.
Tiu, also known as Chrisha Choo, is a trainee for Urban Works ENT, a Korean agency. Originally from Cebu, Choo was scouted by the company while she was in San Francisco, California. She then flew to Korea with her mother and younger brother.
A fan favorite, she first caught the attention of the judges of “K-Pop Star 6,” which also includes YG Entertainment’s Yang Hyun-suk and Antenna Music’s You Hee-yeol, with her audition where she performed “I Don’t Love You” by Urban Zakapa and danced to Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend.”
She was eliminated from the competition back in January but was brought back on the show after being saved by the judges.
The winner of the final season of “K-Pop Star 6” will be jointly debuted and promoted by the three companies.
