Pia Wurtzbach, like the true confidently beautiful woman that she is, did not let the bullies of her past define her path.
In a speech delivered to the students of the International Language Academy of Canada, Pia shared her past experiences being bullied as a student and as a newbie actress in the Philippines.
“I experience bullying in different forms. I experienced it in school. I felt like I was the odd one out growing up in the province because I was half-Filipino and half-German, so I wasn’t full blooded Filipina and of course I was the tallest in my class and I felt kind of awkward. I went through an awkward phase and even when I was an actress, there was a lot of scrutiny there as well,” Pia said to ABS-CBN News.
The anti-bullying talk was shortly followed by a dinner that raised about USD7,000 for the benefit of the Sick Kids Foundation, a Canadian organization investing in child healthcare.
The year-long journey as Miss Universe is proving to be fruitful for Pia. ”I definitely matured over the last two months and I can’t believe it’s only been two months – just because so many things have happened already,” she said.
Prior to her stop in Toronto, she was seen at an AIDS Event in New York.
In a short visit to Manila earlier this year, she got involved Smile Train, a foundation helping kids with a cleft palate.
