In Star Cinema’s upcoming movie, The Unmarried Wife, Kapamilya actress Angelica Panganiban and Kapuso actor Dingdong Dantes are Geoff and Anne — the perfect picture of a happily married couple.
But after their dream wedding and raising their kid, Anne finds out the truth about Geoff and his cheating.
Hurt and confused, Anne soon meets Bryan (played by Paulo Avelino) and develops feelings for him, making things more complicated.
In a PEP.ph interview, Angelica says she’s thankful for having this opportunity to star in this movie.
“Natutuwa naman ako dahil nabigyan ako ng oportunidad na makagawa ng importanteng pelikula para kumbaga salaminin ang mga kababaihan, kahit kalalakihan, kung ano ang mga tunay na nangyayari na minsan masyadong taboo para usapan at naging matapang ang pelikula na ito para i-tackle namin yung mga ganyang klaseng usapin, lahat ng pinagdadaanan sa relasyon,” she explains.
(I’m glad I was given this opportunity to do an important movie to reflect women, and even men, about what truly happens in life that could be a taboo for some and this movie is brave enough to tackle those kinds of issues, everything we go through when we’re in a relationship.)
For award-winning director Maryo J. Delos Reyes, Angelica was perfect for the role.
In the same PEP.ph interview, Delos Reyes said of Angelica, “She’s my dramatic actress. Alam mo naman, siya yung dapat i-elevate na nating drama queen. Panahon na, lahat tayo tumatanda… Siya na yun [para sa] akin kasi she can do comedy, she can do drama, she can do a little bit drama. She can be everything.”
(She’s my dramatic adress. You know, she should be elevated to the queen of drama. It’s time, we’re all getting older… She’s it for me because she can do comedy, she can do drama, she can do a little bit drama. She can be everything.)
Delos Reyes also said it’s time to make space for new talent to evolve in the industry, like what he worked on with Angelica.
“We need a space in the industry to move everybody because ang dami ring mga bata na kailangang pumasok (there are a lot of young artists who needs to break into show business), and this is our duty as directors, producers, talent managers, we have to keep the industry alive, otherwise mauubusan tayo ng artista (we’ll run out of artists), we have to move them up.”
The Unmarried Wife will hit cinemas nationwide on Nov 16.
