WATCH: Banig singing Whitney Houston’s ‘Didn’t We Almost Have It All’

Banig who? For millennials and other young things out there, Josephine “Banig” Roberto was this very talented singer who as a kid joined the talent search Ang Bagong Kampeon. She was so good that she went to the States, competed in the talent show Star Search – and won, eventually appearing in big shows such as the Arsenio Hall Show, and Good Day LA.

She kind of disappeared after that, but she never stopped singing and performing.

Recently, she had a show at The Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, where she performed Gary Valenciano’s “Di Na Natuto,” and “Didn’t We Almost Have It All” by Whitney Houston, whose songs she sang a lot when she was young.

There is no doubt she still has a powerful voice and that she can hit those high notes, but the arrangement bored us to death. It seemed like it didn’t want to end and all we wanted was for it to end. The ending, too, seemed like it didn’t want to end, which is very Pinoy (you know how when three or more singers sing onstage and for the last part they try to upstage each other by doing all these adlibs and try to be the one to sing the last note?)

Anyway, good for Banig. Hope she makes a comeback. But first she needs to update her sound AND look.
