Watch: Anti-piracy ad tries to be an action film starring Derek Ramsay and Gaby dela Merced

Go (coco)nuts! Share this story with your friends.

We support what the Motion Picture Anti Film Piracy Council (MPAFPC), the Motion Picture Association (MPA), and the Optical Media Board (OMB) are fighting for and the country’s anti-piracy laws — but we hope somebody comes up with better public service ads.

Let’s face it, we don’t look forward to the anti-piracy ads that they show in Philippine cinemas. They can be annoying. Make that VERY annoying.

The lengthy dramatizations can be downright corny. What’s wrong with a straightforward announcement citing the law and its penalties?

Anyway, there was an anti-piracy ad with comedians Wally Bayola and Jose Manalo. Then, there was another one with singer Randy Santiago and actor John Estrada.

The latest anti-piracy ad has been showing for some time now but we just had to get it out of our system.

The new ad easily trumps the other two that we mentioned.  It’s actually trying to be an action film starring Derek Ramsay and race car driver-model Gaby dela Merced police officers. Gawad Urian winner Kristoffer King is also in the ad.

At one minute and 48 seconds, the ad is probably too long. But then that’s just us. Watch it for yourself.

Our verdict: Ramsay and Dela Merced deserve better than this. We all deserve better than this.

We do have a favorite scene in the ad: The slow motion segment involving tomatoes.
