The Voice of the Philippines returned last weekend and boy was it successful. According to ABS-CBN News, the pilot episode of The Voice Kids beat its competition last Saturday and Sunday (Vampire ang Daddy Ko and Kapuso Mo Jessica Soho), winning in the ratings game, according to Kantar Media.
Hosted by Luis Manzano and Alex Gonzaga, The Voice Kids brings back three out of four judges of the edition last time; Sarah Geronimo, Bamboo Manalac, and Lea Salonga return on their swivel chairs while Apl.de.ap is, well, somewhere else.
It was very fun to see pint-size talent belting and crooning and grooving. Some had sob stories, too, that we admit had us teary-eyed.
But after the Saturday and Sunday episodes, which showed talented/lucky kids getting picked by the mentors and moving on to the next stage, we realized something: it’s really heartbreaking for those who don’t get in. As in you’d see them crying – either bawling or really trying to hold it in because they’re in front of the cameras. Actually, finishing your song without any of the judges turning for you is pretty disheartening. It’s hard for adults – we saw that last time we watched The Voice of the Philippines – so it must be really hard for these kids to get rejected on national TV. Sure, getting rejected on national TV isn’t new, but the format of The Voice just makes it a little harsh for these little hopefuls.

Then again, rejection is part of life, so maybe it’s good for these kids to learn about rejection this early?
