Batangas Governor Vilma Santos may not be running as the vice president of the country, but the Star for All Seasons reveals she may go for either Lipa City Mayor or Batangas Representative in 2016.
In an interview for the October 2015 issue of YES! Magazine, Vilma charted her future in local politics.
“Ang Lipa po ngayon lone district na. May sarili na siya na district. And also Batangas City. So, just in case, if I want to break the three years, puwede ako mag-congresswoman, and then, after three years, one term, na-break ko na, I can go back as governor — kung okey pa sa akin ang politics,” Vilma told YES!
But Governor Santos insists, nothing is final about her political plans yet, and she doesn’t want to have the final say on issues involving higher office.
“To plan things about politics or anything na may plano sa pulitika, wala pa po as of this time. Pero sa mga nagtitiwala, maraming maraming salamat. I truly appreciate it.”
Ate Vi’s journey started way back in 1998, when she first ran and won as Lipa City Mayor. She was the city’s first female mayor and served for three terms.
By 2007, she won a seat as the first female governor of Batangas, and now she’s finishing her third term. This means she cannot run for the same post in the upcoming 2016 elections.
“I want to be governor. Talagang gusto ko. Kung puwede lang ma-extend, lalaban ako uli, e. Kaya lang, wala, graduate na. Kailangan kong magpahinga ng three years, ng one term,” Ate Vi said.
So why won’t she open her doors to the vice presidency?
“I am not mentally, emotionally, and physically prepared. Kaya hindi ko ini-entertain. Up to this time, hindi ko ma-imagine pa’no ko iikutin ang buong Pilipinas to campaign,” she said.
Now, if only more aspiring politicians were as self-aware as Gov Vi.
