And the hits just keep on coming!
Variety, a weekly trade magazine for the American entertainment industry, has just published a glowing film review of Heneral Luna by Richard Kuipers who said the film “impresses on all levels.”
The review made us feel like it’s Recogntion Day in school, with a long roll call of honorable mentions.
It praised John Arcilla’s acting (“charismatic and zesty”), Mylene Dizon (who “hit a winning note”) and Ketchup Eusebio (for “nailing his portrayal of Capt Pedro Janolina”).
The review called the casting of Nonie Buencamino to play his ninuno, Felipe Buencamino, “a remarkable and highly effective piece of casting”. It also gave a thumbs-up to the production team for “vividly bringing to life an era that few viewers outside the Philippines will have seen on big or small screens.”
It singled out cinematographer Pong Ignacio for his “gorgeous widescreen lensing, artful compositions and exciting coverage of the many combat set-pieces”.
Heneral Luna is the country’s official entry to the Best Foreign Film category of the upcoming Academy Awards.
