U2 is finally coming to Manila in December

It’s hard to believe that U2 has never had a concert in the Philippines. Fans have been eagerly waiting for years, all while being disappointed by false rumors of a visit from the Irish rock band. Looks like they can rest easy now, though, because U2 announced this morning that they will be performing in Manila this coming December.

First came this tweet, a gif of a Joshua tree appearing in the foreground of Philippine rice terraces. “And Manila too … Wednesday, Dec 11, U2’s first-ever show in the Philippines,” the tweet reads.

Then there was this photo of a note that says: “Bono, Edge, Adam and Larry coming to rock you hard & soft … loud & vivid, black & white & colour Dec 11.”

Both posts also appear on the band’s official Facebook page.

“Manila is a first,” said frontman Bono in a statement posted on the band’s website. “And that has everyone on their toes …. this has to be one of the great ones!”

“We really wanted to bring The Joshua Tree Tour to Asia,” added lead guitarist Edge. “We’d always hoped that it would include a show in the Philippines and now we can finally say that we will see you in December … We are very excited.”

The band will play at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan on December 11, Wednesday as part of their The Joshua Tree Tour. Other tour stops include venues in New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea.

Tickets for the Manila concert will be available starting Sept. 5, Thursday through the SM Tickets website. They are priced from PHP2,499 (US$49.15) to PHP20,499 (US$403.12), according to promoter MMI Live.

The tickets will be available to U2.com subscribers ahead of time from Sept. 1 – 3 (Sunday – Tuesday) and to subscribers of telco Smart on Sept. 4, Wednesday.

U2 is made up of members Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. The band is known for various hits including With Or Without You, Stuck In A Moment, Sweetest Thing, and All I Want Is You.
