On the other side of the world, two young Filipinas joined the ranks of Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and other famed leggy models at the catwalk of the celebrated Paris Fashion Week this season.
Rina Fukushi, 17, can (partly) thank her diverse heritage for her stunningly good looks: she has a Spanish grandfather, Japanese father and a Filipina mother. She was first recognized at the Tokyo fashion week last year. Now, she is headed to make a name for herself in New York and Europe. She’s proving that her appeal is global, one country at a time. She walked the PFW runway for Louis Vuitton.
Marga Esquivel, 20, is a California-bred Pinay with a piercing stare. Last year, she stunned the fashion industry by dying her hair in a striking silver color. Her strong features earned her a spot at the Chanel’s Haute Couture show. For this season’s PFW, she modeled for MiuMiu.
The Paris Fashion Week is considered part of the global “Big 4” fashion weeks. The other three main locations are London, Milan and New York. The Paris Fashion Week is usually held bianually.
