‘Turn leeeeft. SKRRRRT!’ : Waze now blessed with the kooky voice of influencer Mimiyuuuh

Driving with traffic navigation app Waze has today become less robotic and more colorful, as the cackling voice of influencer Mimiyuuuh (yes, with three Us) can now accompany you on your journey.

Don’t know who that is? That’s weird. Lately, we’ve been seeing her everywhere.

On Instagram today, Mimiyuuuh, who also goes by Mimi, posted a video of herself in a recording studio cawing her signature “SKRRRT” (which, upon checking, is actually not just a nonsensical sound, but an onomatopoeia that sounds like drifting cars).

The influencer had landed a modeling gig for online superstore Lazada Philippines earlier this year, and her voicing stint in the Waze app is a partnership between the two brands. Mimi is only the second Filipino public figure whose voice appears in the app, following the footsteps of no less than Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray.

“Super thank you @lazadaph for this opportunity. I can’t imagine that I’ll be the next Filipino voicer in waze. VOICER? Next to Catriona [Gray]. I don’t really see any difference with us two. XHNZ!” She joked.

Then she did a shout out to her fans (close to 2 million subscribers on YouTube and half a million each on Instagram and Twitter). “Hope you guys would enjoy this project as much as our team enjoy (sic) making it. HUWAW!!! Go download my voice on Waze! Love you guys!” Mimi said in English and Filipino.

An out-of-the-box character, and, at the moment, one of the hottest names in fashion, Mimi started vlogging just in March this year, but her rise to fame has been met with creative collaborations with the likes of actress and socialite Heart Evangelista. Mimi has also graced the covers of various Philippine magazines, and even received a nod from hip, global street-wear brand Off-White founder Virgil Abloh.

On Twitter, Mimi’s fans say they have already begun downloading her voice option on the app and are giddily sharing it.

And Grab drivers are also in on the fun. User @dyeyyyyyem posted earlier today, “My Grab Driver loves his new Waze Voice @mimiyuuuh!!!” attaching the video below which you can distinctly hear Mimi say “Turn right pooh (“please”), then turn leeeeft. SKRRRT!”
