Tough love: Vice Ganda temporarily fired Negi from ‘GGV’ for drug use

Vice Ganda’s brand of humor is nasty. But though he may be appear like a big bully on screen, he’s a softie who’s always looking out for his squad.

The 40-year-old comedian, whose real name is Jose Marie Visceral, opened up about how he fired his close friend Negi from the weekly comedy show “Gandang Gabi Vice (GGV)” for drug use.

Speaking on the ABS-CBN’s “Magandang Buhay,” he said that Negi (Uldario Molina Jr.) started using drugs as he got his taste of success in the biz. Vice felt that he needed to intervene.

The concerned friend threatened to remove Negi from GGV and kill his showbiz career altogether.

“Nabalitaan ko may mga kaibigan siyang masasama tapos nagbibisyo-bisyo, sabi ko talaga sa kanya, pag nalaman ko pang nagbibisyo ka, tatanggalin kita dito sa GGV, papatanggal kita sa comedy bar, kakausapin ko lahat ng shows walang tatanggap sayo’ng trabaho,” Vice said.

(I heard that he had friends who influenced him to get into vices. I told him that I’ll fire him from GGV if he won’t stop his drug use… he will be removed from comedy bars, no shows will invite him.)

Since Negi wasn’t changing his bad habits, Vice eventually had to fire him for real.

Like a good friend, Vice investigated about what happened to Negi after leaving GGV. Once Negi was able to clean up his act, Vice gladly took him back in.

Of course, this story was told on national television with Negi’s permission.

Now things are looking up for Negi again. He’s back on GGV and he’s getting a lot of recognition in showbiz. Recently, he won PHP1 million with Long Mejia on the show “Minute to Win it.”

Vice said that he was proud of what Negi has become. He added that Negi is now able to save money.

For sure Negi will continue to be a subject of Vice Ganda’s jokes and pranks, but that’s all part of a good, solid friendship, right?
