Tito Sotto defends his sexist comment on ‘Eat Bulaga’

It was a simple reaction.

This is how Sen. Tito Sotto reacted to those criticizing him over his “victim-shaming” comment on Eat Bulaga last week.

Sotto drew flak for a rape-related joke he made on live television in the show’s “Juan for All, All for Juan” segment on Sat, Jul 9.

But in a text message to Rappler, Sotto said the comment was merely to say a married woman should not be out drinking late at night.

“It was a simple reaction saying that a married lady should not be out at night having shots [or drinking] with men other than her husband,” he said.

Sotto added, “That’s [the] context. What’s wrong with that?”

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) summoned Eat Bulaga executives to an inquiry on Thu, Jul 21 over Sotto’s comment.

In a tweet on Wed, Jul 13, the MTRCB clarified that “its jurisdiction is over programs, and not over hosts and personalities.”
