‘Tis the season: 7 ways to give thanks this Christmas

Presented by

Ho, ho, ho, Coconauts! It’s everyone’s favorite time of year, Christmas. And no one does Christmas quite like the Philippines, amirite? We bring holiday cheer like no other nation. Carols, parols, presents, tinsel, trees…and that’s just what we left the house with today!

But Christmas is also about looking back, reflecting on the year and thanking those around us. So here are some of the many ways you can spread holiday cheer and say thank you, starting with a heart-felt holiday message from the World’s Best Low-Cost Airline (four years in a row, #humblebrag).

Spread the holiday cheer with AirAsia.

AirAsia is spreading the spirit of gratitude this season with their new #ThankYou Christmas Campaign. The new campaign is filling the air (and the skies) with the love, gratitude and holiday cheer – hey, it might not be a coincidence that these guys match Santa Claus’s color scheme!

The AirAsia #ThankYou video highlights a year of memorable journeys and AirAsia’s gratitude to have spent this time with its loyal passengers – that’s you! Everyone’s favorite bright red airline also pledges to bring continue and even improve their high quality service to Filipino travellers.

Watch the video here, let your heart melt just a tiny bit, and share the Christmas tidings with your friends and family.

In the spirit of AirAsia’s campaign, here are a few more ways you can spread the holiday cheer and say thanks to those who meant the most to you this year.

Do something nice for a colleague at your company Xmas party.

We’re pretty sure your office is having an Xmas party and rather than cringe at the thought of karaoke and small talk why not lean into it? Go all out and help organize. Then once you’re there, make an effort to compliment a couple colleagues and tell them what a great job they did this year.

Even if that means joining the company skit.

Take an elderly relative to see Christmas decorations in the city.

All the dazzling parols and Christmas décor along the streets and in the malls might not seem too exciting as you dash from errand to meeting to lunch. But you know who would love to see the sights? Your elderly auntie.

Back in her day, they didn’t have decorations like this!

Host a reunion party to gather old friends.

Call some old friends and thank them for being there for you with homemade bibingka and puto bumbong. Ok, even store-bought will do! Just take the opportunity to bring people together and appreciate each other’s company. The thanks will come back to you tenfold when you’re happily reminiscing about old times. Ah, the magic of Christmas.

So what if you’ll have to clean up 20 dirty dishes.

Let that person at the mall have the last item, even though you really wanted it and you were there first, darn it.

With practically every store on sale now it’s hard to resist a little shopping spree. Imagine this: as you reach for that perfect gift at the Christmas bazaar (last one of course) someone snatches it right out of your hand. Fight the urge to glare (there’s 11 other months to do that) and just smile. Hey, you have the same taste; maybe you can even be friends? Christmas miracles do happen!

AirAsia has enough goodies for everyone 😉

Show some appreciation for those carolers at your doorstep.

It might feel like Christmas carolers on your doorstep belting our classics like “Sa May Bahay” every hour of the day and night. But take a moment to listen, smile and thank these poor, poor souls for spreading the holiday spirit in the only way they know how. Ok, we’re just bitter because our singing is atrocious.

Go on, give those carolers a selfie!

Visit your loved ones even though it feels like 57 people suddenly live there.

Holidays are meant to be shared with loved ones, whether you fly AirAsia, drive around the block or walk down the street to reach them. It’s worth it when your ref is filled with yummy holiday treats and cousins are bustling past you in the hallway. Take a moment and thank them for being there. And when those little kids you barely know come claim to be inaanak and ask for gifts, give them a little something and thank them for being so cute.

More people = more presents.
