This year’s Sundance Film Festival was abuzz about the horror film Hereditary — and now, the critically acclaimed film has been released in Philippine theaters.

With a 90 percent “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes and described as “uncommonly unsettling” by the film review-aggregation website, the movie tells the story of a family that experiences mental illness-related disturbances after their grandmother dies.

It stars Toni Collette (The Sixth Sense), Alex Wolff (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), Ann Dowd (HBO’s The Leftovers and Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale), Gabriel Byrne (HBO’s In Treatment), and newcomer Milly Shapiro.

Fill the weekend with live music

Date: June 23, Saturday
Venue: Various locations in Makati

Fête de la Musique — “Music Day” for the uninitiated — is an annual event held in cities all over the world on the same day. Here in the Philippines, it’s celebrated with a series of concerts of across musical genres, in various locations around Manila.

Now on its 24th year in the city, events will be held on June 23, Saturday; June 29, Friday; and June 30, Saturday.

This coming Saturday, there will be two main stages, one at the Greenbelt 3 park and the other at the A. Venue parking lot. The lineup includes local artists like Ourselves The Elves, Toni B., Pedicab, She’s Only Sixteen, Orange and Lemons, Baihana, Cheats, Tukar Sinati feat. Radha, Kjwan, and Motherbass.

There will also be pocket stages for more intimate events in various establishments in the Poblacion district and along Chino Roces extension.

Ditch the San Miguels and try some local craft brews

Date: June 23 & 24 (Saturday & Sunday)
Venue: Mayflower Parking, Greenfield District, Mandaluyong City

The MNL Craft Beer Festival is happening over this weekend. In case your tastebuds have been craving some fresh brews to try — here’s the time to do it. The event will bring together homegrown craft breweries that’ll showcase their beers, which attendees can enjoy along with food and music from 4pm to midnight.

Breweries that will be at the event include Baguio Craft Brewery, Baler Brewing Co, Cerveza Sagada Craft Brewery, and Santiago Brewery & Malthouse from Antipolo.
