In case you’ve been wondering why you haven’t been able to get your fill of art at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila (M) lately, the museum finally has answers — they’re preparing to move to a new space in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City.
“A lot of you have been asking about the museum! The Metropolitan Museum of Manila is temporarily closed as we prepare to reopen with new art spaces at Bonifacio Global City,” the museum’s official Facebook page wrote.
In an interview with Tatler Asia, M president Tina Colayco confirmed the museum is transitioning to leave the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas complex along Roxas Boulevard in Manila, its home for 45 years, and move into a new state-of-the-art space in BGC.
The BGC venue will reportedly have a floor area of 3,000 square meters, an outdoor area for installations, and a connecting lane from 30th St to the shopping and mixed-use development area, High Street.
“We are excited to be part of the vibrant and emerging cultural hub that BGC has become, and our new location will certainly widen our audience reach. With our new environment, we are reinforcing our continuing commitment to modern and contemporary art, with plenty of opportunities to explore new digital and spatial exhibition formats, connecting indoor and outdoor spaces for art and hybrid programmes,” Colayco told Tatler.
BGC is home to several of Metro Manila’s most well-known contemporary art galleries and museums.
