Bad news for Filipino The Weeknd fans: the Canadian singer-songwriter’s Manila concert is not pushing through.

Concert promoter MMI Live made the announcement on its official Facebook page earlier today saying that the concert has officially been canceled due to “production requirement issues.”

The Grammy award winner’s performance in the country was supposed to happen on Dec. 7 (Tuesday).

“Due to production requirement issues, we regret to announce that The Weekend Live in Manila concert is now cancelled,” the statement read.

The Starboy singer announced his first ever Asian tour in August on his social media accounts. His tour includes Coconuts cities Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, and Bali.

As of this article’s posting, of the Southeast Asia shows, only the Manila concert was canceled — though it looks like a previously scheduled show in Taipei has also since been canceled. The Asia tour will officially kick off in Hong Kong on Nov. 30 (Friday).

The MMI Live’s statement added that ticket refunds will start on Dec. 4 (Tuesday).

Earlier this November, domestic telecoms operator Globe Telecom Inc. announced that their subscribers can get tickets to the singer’s concert at 50 percent off.

The sudden sale and the cancellation led netizens to think that tickets were selling poorly, as the most expensive ticket was priced at PHP23,850 (US$455.42).

“First, 50% off on the tickets then now [the] show [was] cancelled,” said Miriam Aquino.

“Perhaps low ticket sales?” asked Pio Fronda.

“Can’t sell tickets?” asked Carlo Emmanuel Valdez Mones.

Jeff Llamas referenced the singer’s hit I Feel It Coming: “I knew it. I felt it coming.”

Whatever the reason, fans were still disappointed when news broke.

Kyle Delos Santos wrote in all caps to express his disappointment.

Jarvey Jean Magsambol said: “HUHUHUHU THEY SHOULD’VE LOWERED [the ticket prices].”

“YOU GUYS GOT MY HOPES UP FOR NOTHING!” said Kathleen Mae Gozum.

We guess this serves as a lesson to never let our hopes for such things get too high. Until we meet again, The Weeknd.
