If you’re a bit of a science geek and a regular social media user, you’d know by now that the first-ever images of a supermassive black hole have been captured by a group of researchers called Event Horizon Telescope (EHT).
EHT made the announcement on Wednesday that it had photographed the contours of the supermassive black hole, which was at the heart of M87, an elliptical galaxy 55 million light-years from Earth.
While the new images are inarguably dope AF, some brands are taking the opportunity to join the conversation about the now-viral topic by poking fun at the new discovery. Here’s what they came at us with.
Durex
The condom brand went full sexual innuendo on us with its caption for the image. Durex, on its Facebook page yesterday, wrote: “Like the rest of the world, we can totally understand the fascination and excitement about finding a new hole in the universe. #OwnYourSituation”.
Classy.
The Facebook post received 46,000 likes, and 37,000 shares as of this article’s posting, though, so looks like they’re doing something right over at Durex. Netizens like Anthony Marquez even gave some props to the brand’s graphic designer and marketing strategist.
Trishita Banerjee said: “Creativity at its best!!”
Donyx Gomez Caupayan also shared a not-so-PG-13 comment and said: “Wow what a beautiful planet… Is that ‘Ur anus’?”
Default: Cafe Pub
The local pub has joined in on the fun and posted an alcoholic shot called the “truth serum” on its Facebook page yesterday, which resembled the colors of the black hole. It looks like once you down this one, you’re down for good.
The drink is actually a mix of Jägermeister and Jose Cuervo tequila.
The page says in its caption written in Filipino: “This drink will make you confess to your crush, or call up your ex that you love even though they cheated on you.”
The Facebook post had over 490 reactions and 320 shares as of this article’s posting. Netizens thought it was pretty funny and tagged their friends while telling them of the impending doom the drink will definitely give drinkers.
Gillian Aypa tagged a friend and said in Filipino: “You’ll die siz”
Arielle Bernabe tagged her friends and asked: “Who will we drunk dial this time”
Lora Cerdan said: “[I]t‘s like they called all the demons and put them all in one drink haha”
Dunkin’ Donuts
The Twitter account of Dunkin’ Donuts Philippines also added in on the fun yesterday, posting about the black hole and writing in Filipino: “So this is what the black hole looks like if the photo is enhanced?”
Dunkin’ then “enhances” the image and lo and behold, it’s a choco butternut donut.
Ganito pala yung black hole kapag in-enhance yung photo?

The tweet garnered over 42,000 likes and 9,900 retweets as of this article’s posting.
Local TV host Steven Silva (@iamstevensilva) replied with a gif that said: “Well played, sir, well played.”
